Oh, to be like a wildflower -
a girl who can't be controlled, who blooms in spite of storms and embraces not blending in- a lupine among countless poppies. To grow towards the sky, willing to fight for a chance to thrive.
I think, perhaps, when I grow up, I want to be a wildflower.
For weeks, I ventured out, hoping to find a big meadow of wildflowers. I've seen beautiful little patches, dots of color across the vast desert horizon. It was beautiful - but after the 2019 superbloom, it wasn't fully what I was hoping to find.
And then, when not even looking, while not overthinking, without trying to hard, while simply doing what we loved - (getting outdoors), we came across this field, with poppies as far as the eye can see.
This had me reflecting on recent life.
The saddest thing about being an adult is how we can let life get away from us. Challenges happen, responsibilities build. It can start to feel as if possibilities have dwindled. We lose our sense of wonder.
There are inevitable seasons of life, where it can feel like your wheels are spinning... yet, you may as well be deep in quick sand, as you don't seem to be getting anywhere. Results just aren't coming.
I see the poetry in this wild field of wildflowers...
Rather than feel defeated by what's not going well, take a deep breath, try a new approach, without expecting an immediate reward.
In your season of waiting, take time to wander, to do what brings you joy-
Turn your eyes upward and be thrilled by the stars at night; go for a walk and allow yourself to feel elated over a bird's nest.
Wake early and relish in the sunlight, as it spreads itself across a new day.
Pull over to photograph the rainbow, especially when the rain causes frustrating delays.
Watch snowflakes gently fall (even if you're sooo over winter).
Life is too precious to spend each moment anxiously awaiting the next season or highlight - instead look for the rewards that can be found in a simple day, and if you see them, be prepared to slow down and appreciate the wildflowers, whether they stand small and solo or appear in a field of vibrant color.
What's your favorite thing about wildflowers?
